When novelist Ian McEwan’s son had to write a school essay on one of his father’s books, Enduring Love, McEwan “gave him a tutorial” on the novel “and told him what he should consider,” he told the Daily Mail. However, “his teacher disagreed fundamentally with what he said. I think he ended up with a C+.”
When my daughter was in high school, I was an op-ed columnist for the San Jose Mercury News. Some of her teachers would assign my columns, which she found deeply embarrassing.
