Student misbehavior is the largest source of teacher stress, according to a RAND survey, reports Sarah D. Sparks in Education Week. "Student behavior was 20 percentage points more likely to be in teachers’ top three sources of stress than low pay, the next most common stressor."
Behavior and mental health issues are putting a growing burden on Wisconsin teachers, writes Courtney Graves for the McIver Institute.
In March, Gov. Tony Evers vetoed a Republican-proposed bill that would have clarified "when students are being disruptive or violent enough" to justify removal from the classroom, and require schools to create a plan to remedy misbehavior before a student is returned to the classroom.
The governor said Republican lawmakers have refused to support increased behavioral and mental health support in schools, she writes. The Wisconsin ACLU said the bill would create “new avenues for excluding students with disabilities by creating new powers to eject a student from the classroom.”
