You are beautiful (like everyone else)

Mirror, mirror on the wall, I can’t see myself at all.

Girls can’t check their hair, lipstick, eyeliner or acne concealer in bathrooms at Laguna Hills High in southern California. The mirrors are covered with affirmation signs: “You are beautiful,” “You are amazing,” “You are enough,” etc.

Sabrina Astley, 17, came up with the idea. “The signs have helped people remember that everyone is beautiful, everyone is important, everyone is good enough and everyone should be treated equally,” she told ABC News.

When I was in high school, we would have torn down the signs to get at the mirror and verify that our appearance was “good enough.” I don’t think being told “you are beautiful” because everyone is beautiful would have made me feel beautiful.
