New name, new identity

A Florida community college is changing its name — and offering 10 bachelor’s degrees, dorms,  intercollegiate athletics and study-abroad opportunities. The newly named Florida SouthWestern State College also will recruit “brighter” applicants and out-of-state students. State universities aren’t happy about the competition.

    When I think “Southwestern Florida”, my literal brain puts that somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico about 200 miles offshore.

  2. Unfortunately, State universities and colleges always seem to be offended when community or junior colleges start offering 4 year degrees, and I’d agree the competition can be an issue, but lets see what the completion rate is 4 to 6 years from now on degrees? :)
