College: Free speech requires a permit

Modesto Junior College (California) stopped students from handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution on Constitution Day, Sept. 13, because they hadn’t obtained a permit five days in advance and weren’t in the “free speech zone.”

  1. One would think that the whole university would be a free-speech zone, but that’s apparently not the case. The “free-speech zone” is a small pad of concrete in front of the student center.

Universities seem to become a parody of themselves. When the paradigm shifts and they become irrelevant (which always eventually happens to institutions who drift into a mission that is the opposite of why they were started in the first place), I will not lament their passing. They’ve done it to themselves.

You really have to wonder if the dimbulbs running this show wonder how they look to normal people.
Maybe they think this sort of thing is so counter-intuitive that only highly-evolved geniuses could think it, not like the rednecks hovering just off campus.
