Training for a career in beer

Instead of going to college to drink beer, students at three North Carolina community colleges will learn to make beer. With a growing number of craft breweries, Western North Carolina hopes to become the beer-making equivalent of California’s Napa Valley.

About Joanne

  1. Michael E. Lopez says:

They’re more likely to become like Silicon Valley. What was important there was the people and the acitivity in which they engaged.

Napa is Napa because that’s where the terroir and climate are. The people are there because of the natural endowments.

You can make beer pretty much everywhere.

  2. Stacy in NJ says:

Excellent. I see a return to college in my future (I wish).

  3. Besides being able to brew a tasty libation, there’s a nice pathway into the biotech industry – the fermentation skill is very transferrable to manufacturing. Excellent STEM job!
