I looked at the linked abstracts, and I can’t imagine how “using the (preschool) child’s home language where possible” is going to be helpful. Regardless of the home language, preschool kids should be able to learn English quickly, by full immersion – and, at such a young age, the goal should be verbal fluency within a year. Until the last 30-40 years, when ESL was invented, that’s how all immigrant kids learned English. BTW, the Chinese valedictorians of both my older sons’ classes came here in early ES, speaking no English and speaking Chinese at home, and one even won the state spelling bee in 8th grade.
