California will continue to let community college students take as many credits as they wish at very low rates. Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposal to limit low-cost credits to 90 — 30 more than the minimum for a two-year degree — died in the Legislature.

    Well, that makes sense. If they were only for people seeking two-year degrees they would be junior colleges. Community colleges exist to provide ongoing education to members of the community throughout their lives, which may well be more than ninety credits.

  2. In a Utopia, we could pay for each person to take as much subsidized education as they wanted. But in the real world, resources are finite and we have to try to figure out what amount makes sense.
