A day in the life of a teacher

NBC’s Education Nation is sponsoring a teacher essay contest on “a day in the life of an American teacher.” Teachers are asked to write no more than 800 words answering the question: What are the biggest challenges you face in your job, and how do you measure your own success on a daily basis?

The three best essays will be published on the Education Nation site and the three winners will be flown to New York to attend Education Nation’s Teacher Town Hall on Sunday, September 25.

  1. Michael E. Lopez says:

Those are some pretty big topics — two topics — for 800 words.

  2. I’d like to know how much time teachers are actually teaching!

How do teachers spend their day? Do they spend time teaching or doing other things such as disciplining students, reading announcements, paperwork, writing reports, preparing for classes, meeting with colleagues, attending meetings, testing students, etc.

What do teachers actually do during that 6 hour day?
