Rhee survives smear campaign

Stop smearing Michelle Rhee, writes Richard Whitmire, author of The Bee Eater: Michelle Rhee Takes on the Nation’s Worst School District.

About Joanne

  1. Since when is telling the truth “smearing”? http://www.slate.com/id/2285650/

  2. CarolineSF says:

Even if one adored Michelle Rhee, it’s over the top to characterize “criticizing” and “challenging” as smearing.

Whitmire’s behavior when he faced tough questions at a bookstore reading in D.C. may have been unprecedented in the history of bookstore readings — he immediately got testy and invented time limits and restrictions on questioning, presenting them falsely as if they were house rules.

Now he’s making a show of getting angry and combative with anyone who criticizes her.

The question is whether this is all contrived posturing intended to prompt attention (such as this post and comment) and boost book sales, since his book came out just before Erase to the Top and revelations about Rhee’s resume fakery besmirched her rep even with the adoring media.
