Aspen names the ‘best,’ annoys the rest

The Aspen Prize for community college excellence announced the 120 finalists Monday. But naming the “best” community colleges has annoyed the rest. The $1 million prize is based on analyzing a variety of performance measures, but the data isn’t reliable.

Also on Community College Spotlight: Pell Grants are “21st-century welfare,” said a Montana congressman. Low-income students can collect grants for nine years without earning a degree.
