Achieving the Dream 2.0

Achieving the Dream is making changes in its campaign to improve community college graduation rates in response to a disappointing evaluation that found little improvement after five years in the first “dream” colleges.

CC’s best bet for increasing success rates would be to pay GED test fees for high school juniors who could then enroll in CC and get on with their lives rather than rotting in high school during senior year. This would be especially effective in states that guarantee 4-year college admission to CC graduates with a minimum GPA. Younger students with greater motivation are more likely to complete their course of studies rather than fall out due to work and financial stress.

  2. The real issue is why we’re expecting anything better from the same kids who couldn’t learn in high school?
