Laid-off workers in St. Louis want short-term training programs that let them rejoin the workforce quickly. Few have the motivation or skills to earn a degree.

  1. Somehow, “Students taking online community college classes are more likely to fail than students in traditional classes” doesn’t surprise me at all (having taught online classes myself). Nor do I think that we’re going to find “extra supports” that will actually succeed in having students do as well in online as in face-to-face course. People who think you can fix that are living in a dream world. Some students do great in online courses, but there are plenty who don’t, and won’t, and I’m not holding my breath for something great to come along.
