Top education books of the decade

In honor of its 10th anniversary, Education Next is conducting a readers’ poll to determine the best education books of the decade.  Forty-one books are listed, including my book, Our School; The Inspiring Story of Two Teachers, One Big Idea and the Charter School That Beat the Odds. Readers can vote for their three favorites.

Diane Ravitch’s The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education is way out in front.

Comments

  1. 1) Recent books are likely to do better, as more people remember them or their publicity.

    2) Bloggers books will do better, as bloggers can steer their loyal readers to the poll.

    3) Who has read all of them? I’m well read, and I don’t think I’ve read half of them. Who has read fully half of them?

This will not be about the best education books of the decade.

Besides any book written by Diane Ravitch, I nominate “The Closing of the American Mind” by the late Allan Bloom, written about 20 years ago, but quite prescient about the fallout of political correctness infecting academia and elsewhere.
