Young revolutionaries

Via This Week In Education comes a very cute Babelgum video of little kids acting out scenes from the American Revolution.

One actor says, “Don’t shoot till you see the whites of their eyes.” Several kids open their eyes very wide. “OK, now shoot.”

When they get to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” some of the kids start dancing.

About Joanne

  1. Richard Nieporent says:

Well one thing we know for sure. This play could never take place at a school. It violates the zero tolerance (or more correctly zero intelligence) policy. The child fired a gun and “killed” someone.

  2. It was a “gun,” but, yes, I had the same thought.

  3. I could enjoy the video a little more without the blatant 21st century reference to “rich white men.” While it’s an accurate statement, it certainly detracts from the historical imperative of teaching history from the perspective of the actors involved in the event. In other words, you need to view history through the eyes of those who were involved in it – not just through 21st century eyes.
