End of the world

Will the world end in 2012? Impressed by ads for the new disaster movie, 2012, New York City students seem to think it’s a documentary, reports Ms. Rubin, a science teacher now covering earth sciences.

. . . every time I introduce them to some new feature of the Earth, some kid calls out “IS THAT THE PART THAT IS GOING TO KILL US ALL IN 2012?!?!” and all the others start to freak out about it.

Also see the Satanic art by a student who thinks homework is evil that Ms. Rubin has posted on her refrigerator.

About Joanne

  1. Dang it, I wish I could come up with an at-least-marginally-legal-and-ethical plan to make money off of all the people who think the world’s going to end in 2012. Buying out life insurance policies feels unethical; I’m not clever enough to come up with some kind of “armageddon survival kit” that people would actually fall for…

  2. I took 2 6th graders and they were even laughing about how fake it was – not that it wasn’t entertaining but some of it is so preposterous that it’s a hoot. ************Spoiler alert********** the WH gets destroyed when the tsunami hurls the USS JFK from the ocean and it lands on the WH roof.

  3. Question -> Will the world end in 2012?

    Answer -> Yes No doubt
    The Way we live it will end for sure …

  4. The White House gets destroyed! Oh My! No movie have ever done that before! Seriously. Emmerich is a hack. I will never see his movies because he is so awful (likewise Michael bay, whom South Park parodied perfectly in their lice episode).

  5. I still cannot believe that so many are convinced solely by the end of the Mayan calendar. Heck, I have a calendar that ends after this December… oh my, the world must be ending!
    The Mayans had to run out of room on the stone, didn’t they?

    ricki – I worked at a grocery store in 1999, and remember people stocking up insanely on canned goods and bottled water. Maybe buy a ton and sell it for more?
