Mom fights school's biking ban

A New York mother is challenging the middle school’s ban on riding a bike to school.

Janette Kaddo Marino rides three miles to the Saratoga Springs school with her 12-year-old son Adam. She thinks it’s safe.

“They really don’t have the right to tell me how to get my kids to school,” Marino told FOXNews.com, emphasizing that she always accompanies her son and is “very safety-oriented.”

The district also tells students not to walk to school. But administrators admit they have no authority to ban biking or walking.

  1. This is absurd. I guess they don’t *have* to have a bike rack at school, effectively ending bike riding, but the parents need to be up in arms over this.

  2. Yeah, what the news article isn’t telling you is that the POLICE met mom and son in front of the school one morning. I remember reading that part in our local newspaper and feeling some outrage. Granted – it’s a busy highway, I’ve driven it myself. However, we are not talking about an unsupervised 5 year old just learning to ride a bike — this is an experienced rider.
