Carnival of Education

Steve Spangler is hosting this week’s Carnival of Education.

Lorem Ipsum has advice on using distance education to accelerate truly gifted children. My daughter used one of the options he mentions, Stanford’s Education Program for Gifted Youth, to take algebra in seventh grade. (She was desperate to get out of a “fuzzy” pre-algebra class.) As LI says, the parent should expect to do a lot of teaching to support a distance-educated student.

  1. Thanks for the mention! I also appreciate knowing that other people have come to the same conclusion — that is, that the parent will basically be implementing the curriculum for the teacher. I had thought it would be more student-directed, actually, but it’s really not. Thanks!
