Let’s face it, we call the Saudis friends because we’re so dependent on oil, and they’ve got lots of it. I can’t believe that if we really wanted to we couldn’t find something to replace oil. We are a nation who developed the atomic bomb, sent a man to the moon, and won the Cold War. We’ve known how hazardous it is to be dependent on nations like Saudi Arabia and their oil for at least the last 35 years. But here we are in the same mess we were in back when Jimmy Carter was president. We are told by the oil companies and many politicians that we should let market forces deal with the situation. Hey, that’s worked real well! Let’s bring over some more madrasas so we can be even better buddies with the Saudis.

Muslim parents might not have all that much to choose from when it comes to a Muslim-flavored education for their kids so are willing to not notice that the school pushes a particularly hard-edged version of Islam. But with the school revealed as a minor league team for Al Queda I wonder whether that willful ignorance will hold up?
