Such events have been outlawed in New York state after one student lost control and was killed freewheeling down a hill on Tractor Day a couple of years ago.

It had become a popular annual opportunity for the few remaining farm kids at my old high school in another nearby district to show off their heritage (along with “townies” on garden tractors horning in). Unfortunately, not all kids are mature enough to drive tractors – or cars – on the roads at that age.
