A charter for Alviso

San Jose’s Downtown College Prep, the charter I write about in Our School, is replicating. DCP has applied for a charter to start a 6th-12th-grade middle/high school in Alviso, a low-income, mostly Hispanic neighborhood of San Jose that falls in the Santa Clara Unified School District.

Santa Clara Unified will hold a public hearing on the petition on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria of George Mayne Elementary School, 5030 N. 1st Street in Alviso. DCP boosters are encouraged to attend.

  • This where success often turns to failure. The success of DCP depends crucially on two people that started it, Andaluz and Lippman. Will there be another competent and charismatic pair to run the second school? I hope so.
