Dumbledore is gay

Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore is gay, said Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling after a Carnegie Hall reading.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds “true love.”

“Dumbledore is gay,” the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards.

That put the kibosh on the relationship, and Dumbledore gave up on finding a soul mate.

  • I suppose we’ll have to put up with endless “magic wand” jokes now.

  • I have not seen the quote in context but the article that I read included Rowling referencing a reader generated storyline that involved a gay Dumbledore. It is possible that the quote was taken out of context by an AP reporter trying to push their own agenda. Or not.

  • Rowling said, “Dumbledore is gay,” before joking that the fan fic writers would go wild at the confirmation of their suspicions.

Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

I think Rowling’s intent is unambiguous.

  • “She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds “true love.””

Being dead, wouldn’t that answer be “no”, regardless of who he fancies?
