‘Blow up’ book

Not all Muslims want to kill you, argues a coloring book titled “I Don’t Want To Blow You Up!” Young Osama, pictured with a huge and terrifyingly toothy grin, says he is not a terrorist, despite his name and hat. (It’s not the hat, kid. It’s the teeth!)

I am a boy who is very good at science. Someday, I’m going to be a U.S. Supreme Court judge.

Why not plan to be a scientist, Osama? Afraid people will think you want to learn physics so you can blow us up?

The coloring book implies that it’s natural to assume Muslims are murderous, unless they tell you they’re not. “Misguided,” writes Alexander Russo on this Week in Education.

  • Just after Pearl Harbor, some Chinese Americans wore really big badges that said “I am Chinese”.
I heard, although I was occupied elsewhere, that after the Chinese “Intervention” in Korea some Japanese Americans wore badges that said “I am NOT Chinese”.
If American Islamists want to impress us, they should wear badges that say **** Osama.

  • Reminds me of Mark Twain’s “Mysterious Stranger,” featuring the young angel Satan (named after a more famous uncle, currently away in the tropics).

  • The drawing of Osama seems to be based on a picture of Clint Howard. http://dvdtalk.com/cineschlock/clint/index.html.
