California charter performance

A new Edsource report, California’s Charter Schools: Measuring Their Performance finds charter middle schools strongly outperform district-run schools, after controlling for demographic characteristics. Charter elementaries do worse and charter high schools do better on the Academic Performance Index, which combines results from multiple subjects, but have lower math scores.

Charters run by management organizations such as KIPP, Green Dot and Aspire outperform stand-alone charters.
