Catching up

Urban students are improving in reading and math on state tests, concludes Beating the Odds VII from the Council of the Great City Schools. In some cities, racial achievement gaps are narrowing and low-performing students are catching up. Students in San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland (Oregon), Fort Lauderdale and Anchorage met or exceeded the state average in both reading and math.
