Cupcake culture

Birthday cupcakes have become a cause, reports the Washington Post.

When Texas tried to ban cupcakes in schools last year, the furor was so deafening that legislators passed the “Safe Cupcake Amendment” to protect the right of parents to tote cupcakes to school. After the vote, one lawmaker remarked, “We didn’t realize how important cupcakes were.

To adults, cupcakes are right up there with mom’s meat loaf, mashed potatoes and apple pie.

Outside school, the cupcake is “the latest hipster chic food,” the Post says. “High-end cupcake-specialty bakeries” have opened in New York, Washington and San Francisco.
