Nostalgia time

Some things never change: In Benton Harbor, Michigan, the superintendent has told the middle school marching band that “Louie Louie” is banned for raunchy lyrics.

“Louie Louie,” written by Richard Berry in 1956, is one of the most recorded songs in history. The best-known, most notorious version was a hit in 1963 for the Kingsmen; the FBI spent two years investigating the lyrics before declaring they not only were not obscene but also were “unintelligible at any speed.”

It takes me back to my youth, much of which was spent trying to figure out the lyrics to “Louie Louie.”

About Joanne

  1. Hoo boy. Here’s one Superintendent who spent way too much time watching “Animal House.”

  2. If this is what the superintendant spends his time worrying about then the sorry state of the Benton Harbor school district is explained. Unfortunately, the worthlessness of the district precedes the current administration.

The Benton Harbor school district ought to get a special achievement award from the Ku Klux Klan for what it’s doing to unsuspecting black kids.
