Choice in South Carolina

Parents are rallying for school choice in South Carolina. Organizers say 4,000 people came out to support a bill that would give tax credits to parents who send their children to private, parochial or charter schools, as well as parents who home school. From AP:

South Carolinians for Responsible Government president Tom Swatzel, whose organization handed out 3,000 blue baseball caps advertising school choice, said he was impressed with the size and racial diversity of the crowd gathered on the north steps.

“Something must be done before we fail another generation of kids,” Swatzel said. “It’s time to say ‘no’ to the status quo.”

Some home-schoolers object to the bill, saying the tax credits don’t benefit low-income parents who don’t owe much in taxes.

I believe that’s why they’re called “tax credits” and not “handouts”.
