Burning issue

San Francisco will start its school year on Aug. 29, despite protests from parents who want to take their children to Burning Man, a post-hippie art festival — or be-in, as we used to say — in the Nevada desert. Burning Man also starts Aug. 29.

About Joanne

  1. Burning Man sounds like a great way to start a year of homeschooling.

I’m only being about 40% facetious.

  2. Foobarista says:

I’m sure students can figure out a way to get social studies credit for anthropological research into the booze and drug-powered orgies – oops; celebrations of “art” – that get hordes of rich Norcals to spend days in the Nevada desert playing at being scruffy hippies…

  3. Walter E. Wallis says:

Back in my desert rat days, we said of prospectors they were either one foot from a million dollars or a million feet from a buck. Burning Man attendees are either one foot from comprehension or a million feet from any clue.
