A quicker MD

Students in a hurry to earn a medical degree can apply to six-year medical programs right out of high school, cutting out two years of college. In other countries, college students start medical training immediately.

  1. Walter E. Wallis says:

The Army had a medical school near San Antonio where they turned out medics in 18 months who were capable of 90% of the skills of a doctor. I have worked with engineers who were 2 or 3 year products of Healds and other trade schools. I am suspicious of any multi-year requirement for any degree because it begins to look like the objective is more social “class” than learning.

  2. Mad Scientist says:

When I was going to Renssealer back in the late 1970s, they had a program just like this one. They made up for the two years by intensive summer sessions for the O-chem and other courses.

  3. IIRC, I briefly considered the University of Miami’s program in ’80.

  4. Steve LaBonne says:

Right nearby, Union (where I taught for a while)
had and I assume still has has a 7-year program, which was expanded from the original 6 years after they decided a program with only 2 ubndergraduate years was just too rushed.
