Mo’ money

As you probably haven’t noticed, I finally have some new books up on the site. Click through to Amazon, buy something and I’ll make a little money.

I’m thinking of getting more serious about trying to finance my luxurious lifestyle through blogging. (I just spent $9 on lunch!) Either I go with Googlesense or Blogads or do a book store linked to the site. Of course, I don’t want to do more work. I just want to make more money. To those of you who’ve tried various options, I’m interested in your opinion about what makes the most sense for a special-interest site like this one. Lately, I’ve been averaging 1,500 unique visitors a day during the week, about 900 to 1,000 on weekends.

About Joanne

  1. You write, “Of course, I don’t want to do more work. I just want to make more money.”

Hey, that’s a thought! Form a Blogger Union! 😉 You can be President (I nominate Kimberly Swygert as Treasurer) and I’ll be Secretary of Defense.

  2. Definitely a bookstore. Two suggestions: move your “highlighted books” (i.e. Language Police, et al.) much higher up on the page so people don’t have to scroll down to get it. And set up a separate, more in-depth page (yes, sorry, a certain amount of work involved) for more books beyond the highlighted, and an Amazon search engine. That way, even folks who don’t necessarily want the particular titles you’re highlighting but would still like to support you would have an easy way of doing so… Normally when I do my on-line shopping I try and make a point of initiating the shopping through sites I support for various reasons. Hopefully others would also be so inclined.

  3. Why not both? Put your ads on the side, and then when you mention e.g. the Thernstrom’s book in a blog entry, use your “partner” link to amazon.

    Yours truly,
    Jeffrey Boulier

  4. I found the best way to earn money is to skip the blogging and sell the writing directly into the market.

Have you tried getting hired as a paid, exclusive content provider?

  5. Ken Summers says:

I’ve tried working less and making more money. So far, the results have been disappointing.

  6. On the other hand, if you ever want to work more and get paid less let me know. I have some experience at that.
